The HMS Warspite(03) was a British super-deadnought battleship that was comminsioned for the Royal Navy in 1915. Her service lasted thirty years, seeing action in both world wars, she frequently saw combat. She truly lived up to her motto, enduring shellfire, bombing, ramming, mines and even an experimental guided bomb. She survived both world wars, but despite her incredible service, she was sold for scrap in 1946. While on her final voyage to the breakers yard in 1947, the Warpsite ran aground on the rocky coast of Cornwall where she rested for eight years, stubbornly resisting any re-floating attempts. In 1955, the remains of the Warspite was salvaged on site ending the story of the "Grand Old Lady".
With that history dump out of the way, this is my submission for my Y4 Honours Project, the HMS Warspite(03). Situated at the Firth of Forth, close to North Queensferry in 1916, prior to the Battle of Jutland. This project includes, the warship, props for the ship (Flag, Lifeboats and Lights), the Forth Bridge, LIDAR scanned landscape, Dynamic Water, distant houses and trees/rocks (Sourced off Marketplace).
This is easily my largest project to date, both in scale, time and Polycount. It took nearly a whole year to complete this project from initial idea to final renders. This was also my first time doing a vehicle, working closely with references and historical documents to get the Warspite to look how she did in 1916. While I did enjoy working on the project for the most part, I was very restricted by time and if I could of had more time, I would of tried to made the landscape more detailed and showcase more of it. I probably would of added more and different boats to the river to make it look more like it would in WW1, however this would of meant to developing completely new ships from scratch which was not feasible.
Either way, I am very impressed and proud of what I have put together, although with hindsight this was a huge undertaking, probably a task more akin to a larger group of modellers and historians. But I am eager to make more vehicles on a much smaller scale.
