Gallowglass Sword: Remastered

The Gallowglass (from Irish: gall óglaigh meaning "foreign warriors") were a class of elite mercenary fighters who gained prominence in Ireland between the 13th and 16th century. Originally Scots who were dispossessed of their lands, they later settled in Ireland and became a significant part of the Irish Infantry. They were often used by Irish chieftains as bodyguards or personal aids.

This style of long-sword has the significant hollow ring pommel and ‘E’ accents that are only found on swords of Irish origin.

This project was a revisit of a earlier project that I completed in 2021. I choose to redo this piece for two reasons; one I wanted to see how my skills had improved since then and two, I own a replica sword that I could reference directly from. This was helpful as I was able to achieve more realistic proportions, which was previous version lacked. I also choose to tone down the rust and grime that was present on my previous version, choosing to go for a slightly stylized brushed finish, the sword still having visibly used and modified, but in otherwise perfect condition.
